Georgia – Georgia authorities launched an investigation after a 37-year-old man, K. Atkins, fatally shot his spouse, 35-year-old Rebeka, before driving to the residence of his prgnant girIfriend, 33-year-old CindeI, where he killed her and her unborn child. The shooter then died by seIf-infIicted wounds. The tragic events have left two families grieving the loss of their loved ones.
Georgia authorities responded to a welfare check at Rebeka’s apartment on May 23, after her coIIeagues reported her absence from work. Upon entering the apartment, officers discovered her body with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Surveillance footage revealed that the 37-year-old shooter had left the apartment around 6:00 a.m. on May 21.
Investigators traced the defendant vehicle to an apartment complex nearby, where the shooter’s prgnant girIfriend resided. While awaiting a search warrant, they observed the victim’s father arriving at the scene and entering the apartment. He later exited and called 911 to report that he had found his daughter and another man dead inside. Police secured the scene and confirmed that the 37-year-old man had shot and killed the pregnant woman before taking his own life.
Cindel Rhoden was a mother of two young daughters and was five months pregnant with a baby boy at the time of her death. Her family described her as a hardworking and kind-hearted individual who was devoted to her children. They have since launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses and support her daughters.
Rebeca Akins had been in a relationship with Kevin Akins for over half of her life. Her sister expressed the family’s devastation over the loss, stating that Rebeca was tragically taken away by the man she had loved for so long. The family is also seeking financial assistance for funeral costs.
The Dalton Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the double murder-suicide. At this time, no motive has been publicly disclosed. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
