Texas – At the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Jim Ferguson Unit, inmates are gaining valuable skills in ranching, livestock care, and agricultural management, providing them with a path to build a future.
The unit runs a program where inmates work with cattle, enhancing their abilities while contributing to the unit’s operations.
Twice a year, steers and heifers are sold to the public, with approximately 3,000 animals sold annually.
The next sale of weaned heifer calves will take place online on Thursday, February 20th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. through Superior Livestock Auction’s “Great Plains Classic Sale.”
This event is open to the public, allowing anyone interested to place bids and watch the sale live on the day.
