Houston, TX – A 15-year-old boy was found shot to death at a southwest Houston apartment complex on Christmas evening, sparking an investigation by the Houston Police Department (HPD).
The fatal shooting occurred around 9:45 p.m. in the 9200 block of Burdine Street. Officers had already been in the area following multiple reports of either gunshots or fireworks in the vicinity when they responded to the incident. Upon arrival, they found the teenager in the parking lot, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bobbye Jones, a resident of the apartment complex, described the disturbing discovery. As she arrived home, Jones nearly stepped on the teen’s body while approaching her back patio. “I almost stepped on him and said, ‘Oh! That’s weird,'” Jones recalled. “I went around and stopped and said, ‘That doesn’t look right. Let me call 911.'”
The boy, whose name has not been publicly released, was visiting relatives in the apartment complex with his girlfriend and sister for the Christmas holiday. The girlfriend, who asked not to be identified, shared details of the tragic night. She said that she and the boy’s sister were waiting for him at a bus stop after their visit, but when he didn’t show up after a while, they began to worry. “We were screaming his name, like ‘Babam! Babam! Babam!’ Which is his nickname, and we didn’t get a callback,” she recalled tearfully. “I called his phone 26 times, and it went straight to voicemail.”
As of now, the Houston Police Department has not identified any suspects or witnesses. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The community is left in shock and mourning as they await further details. The death of the young boy, who was simply spending time with family for the holidays, has left those close to him devastated and searching for answers.
