Temple Police Officer Injured in Shooting; Suspect at Large

Temple, TX – A Temple police officer was injured in a shooting on Wednesday afternoon after responding to a disturbance between two individuals. The incident, which occurred around 3 p.m. in the 100 block of N 11th Street, left the officer with non-life-threatening injuries, and authorities are still searching for the suspect.

According to the Temple Police Department, the officer was nearby when they heard gunfire and immediately responded to the scene. Upon arrival, the officer encountered a disturbance between two individuals. As a bystander attempted to intervene, the suspect allegedly fired at them.

The officer attempted to detain the shooter, but the suspect managed to flee the scene in a vehicle, dragging the officer in the process. The officer was quickly taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The suspect’s vehicle eventually crashed at the intersection of Wendland Road and Airport Road. The suspect then exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.

The bystander involved in the incident sustained minor injuries and was also hospitalized.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Temple Police Department, have launched an extensive search in the area of Wendland Road and Industrial Boulevard. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the whereabouts of the suspect to come forward.

The suspect remains on the loose, and the Temple Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating him. Tips can be reported to the Temple Police Department at 254-298-5500 or anonymously to Bell County Crime Stoppers at 254-526-8477.

This is a developing story, and more details will be provided as they become available.
