Texas – Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller praised U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke Rollins for her swift and comprehensive five-pronged plan aimed at addressing the ongoing avian influenza outbreak.
Miller emphasized that Rollins’ decisive actions represent a stark contrast to the lack of response seen under the Biden Administration.
Miller expressed his frustration with the previous administration’s handling of the crisis, noting the severe impact on farmers, ranchers, and consumers, particularly the skyrocketing egg prices.
He criticized the lack of effective measures to curb the virus’s spread, with over 166 million birds culled as part of the response. He described this approach as a failure of leadership that had left poultry producers and consumers suffering.
In contrast, Secretary Rollins’ new plan includes key measures such as improving biosecurity protocols, developing vaccines tailored to the evolving strain of the virus, and allocating funding for crucial research.
These steps, Miller stated, are a demonstration of bold leadership aimed at creating long-term solutions to protect the agricultural industry and stabilize food prices for families across the country.
Miller reiterated his commitment to collaborating with Rollins and her team to ensure that Texas farmers and ranchers receive the support they need to combat the disease, protect their livestock, and mitigate the financial impact on consumers.
