Texas – The Texas Department of Public Safety announced the results of a one-day, multi-state enhanced traffic enforcement operation aimed at encouraging drivers to comply with the Move Over, Slow Down law. The coordinated effort took place on May 14 across Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.
During the 12-hour operation, officers stopped more than 7,687 vehicles. Of those, 1,326 drivers were pulled over specifically for Move Over, Slow Down violations, leading to 1,013 warnings and 580 citations issued.
In addition to these enforcement actions, officers recorded over 642 speeding violations, provided assistance to 114 motorists, issued 79 seatbelt citations, served 33 warrants, and made seven criminal apprehensions.
Texas Highway Patrol Chief Bryan Rippee described the operation as a “tremendous success,” emphasizing the benefits of inter-agency collaboration.
“Working alongside our neighboring agencies amplified our impact and helped drive home a critical message: when you see flashing lights, move over or slow down. Together, we made our roads safer—not just for first responders but for every driver traveling through our states.”
The Texas DPS also extended thanks to the Arkansas State Police, Louisiana State Police, New Mexico State Police, and Oklahoma Highway Patrol for their joint efforts in promoting roadway safety throughout the region.
