Texas Leaders Honor the Legacy of Former President Jimmy Carter Following His Passing

Waco, TX – Politicians across Texas have expressed their condolences and reflected on the life and legacy of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100. The former president, known for his dedication to humanitarian work, military service, and leadership during a turbulent time in American history, was remembered by leaders from both sides of the political spectrum.

U.S. Senator John Cornyn issued a statement recognizing Carter’s service in various roles, including his time as a naval officer, Georgia state senator, governor, and ultimately, the 39th President of the United States. Cornyn praised Carter’s devotion to his home state of Georgia, his church, and his charity work with organizations like Habitat for Humanity. “His love for his home state of Georgia and for those he served through his beloved Maranatha Baptist Church and charities like Habitat for Humanity was evident throughout his life, and his legacy will remain a cherished part of our great American story,” Cornyn said. He also extended his prayers to the Carter family during their time of loss.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, alongside his wife Cecilia, offered his condolences to the Carter family. In a statement, Abbott called the loss of the former president a moment of national mourning. “Our nation remains the greatest beacon of freedom and opportunity in the world because of our fearless chief executives who are our guiding force through the best and worst of times,” Abbott said. He went on to emphasize Carter’s enduring legacy of selfless service, from his military career to his presidency and beyond, including his work as a Nobel Prize laureate and his contributions to Habitat for Humanity. “Cecilia and I send our prayers and deepest condolences to the entire Carter family,” Abbott concluded.

Senator Ted Cruz also expressed his sadness, highlighting Carter’s remarkable life and legacy. Cruz noted that Carter’s dedication to building homes for those in need through Habitat for Humanity was particularly inspiring. “Our hearts and prayers are with the Carter family during this difficult time. We pray for peace and comfort for his loved ones as they mourn his loss and take solace in knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved wife, Rosalynn,” Cruz said.

Former President George W. Bush, who succeeded Carter in office, shared his own condolences, praising Carter for his deep convictions and loyalty to his family, community, and country. “President Carter dignified the office. And his efforts to leave behind a better world didn’t end with the presidency,” Bush said. He noted Carter’s work with Habitat for Humanity and the Carter Center, which continue to inspire generations of Americans. Bush and his wife Laura sent their heartfelt condolences to the Carter family, remembering Carter’s commitment to service and his enduring impact on the world.

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden also offered their heartfelt tributes. In a joint statement, the Bidens remembered Carter as a man of “great character and courage, hope and optimism.” The president emphasized Carter’s enduring partnership with his wife Rosalynn, calling it a model of love and leadership. “The love shared between Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter is the definition of partnership and their humble leadership is the definition of patriotism,” the Bidens said.

Former President Donald Trump, in a statement posted on Truth Social, also offered his condolences to the Carter family. Trump acknowledged the challenges Carter faced during his presidency, particularly in a time of national and international unrest. “The challenges Jimmy faced as President came at a pivotal time for our country, and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans,” Trump wrote. He concluded by urging Americans to keep the Carter family in their thoughts and prayers.

As tributes continue to pour in from across the nation, the legacy of Jimmy Carter remains one of dedication, service, and a commitment to making the world a better place. His contributions to public service, humanitarian causes, and global peace will continue to resonate for generations to come.
