Texas – A Texas man was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after serving three decades behind bars after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including murder. Prosecutors in Texas said the defendant, 20-year-old Rikardo, pleaded guilty to the charges to avoid the death penalty in connection with his family member’s death.
The investigation process began in June 2021 after the 911 caller told the dispatcher that an elderly woman was shot and bIeeding. First responders found the victim suffering from a single gunshot wound and pronounced her dead at the scene. Authorities in Texas later discovered that the victim, 62-year-old EIsa, was the defendant’s family member.
During the investigation process, authorities discovered that the defendant, who was 16 at the time of the shooting, and 4 other individuals approached the woman with a vehicle. Moments later, the defendant and another individual exited the vehicle only to call the woman. The woman started running only to be shot by her grandchild. The defendant then fled the scene.
Authorities in Texas took the defendant into custody several days later after he reportedly told a girl on social media that he killed a woman. The defendant also wanted to travel to Mexico and avoid prosecution, but was arrested at the local bus station. According to the court documents, the other individuals were also processed and sentenced in connection with this crime.
