The Waco community is celebrating the retirement of Assistant Chief Gentsch after 43 years of dedicated service

Waco, TX – According to the police officials, Chief Gentsch began his law enforcement journey as a Police Cadet for the City of Waco in 1980. Throughout his career, he served in multiple capacities, including Patrol Officer, Detective, and Commander. His resilience was particularly evident on June 19th, 1982, when he was critically injured by a gunman. Despite being shot twice, he returned to duty later that year, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the community.

Promoted to Assistant Chief in 2008, Chief Gentsch took on various interim chief roles and is retiring as the Assistant Chief of the Investigations Command. His educational achievements include graduating from the Waco Police Academy, the 36th Management College of the Southwestern Law Enforcement Institute, the 214th Session of the FBI National Academy, and the 47th DEA Drug Unit Commander Academy. He also holds an honors degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement from McLennan County Community College.

Chief Gentsch’s illustrious career has been marked by numerous accolades, including a Law Enforcement Commendation from the Sons of the American Revolution, a Certificate of Commendation from the American Legion, a Police Shield, the Life Saving Award, a Meritorious Unit Award, the Presidential Protection Commendation, and the Texas Police Chiefs Association Best Practices Recognition Award. He is also an active member of several law enforcement associations.

The Waco community extends its heartfelt gratitude to Assistant Chief Frank Gentsch for his years of service and wishes him a happy and fulfilling retirement.
