TXDOT announces four-year expansion project on I-35 in Waco

in Texas
TxDOT is hosting a statewide virtual public meeting with in-person open houses this spring for Connecting Texas 2050

Texas – The Texas Department of Transportation is set to begin a major four-year expansion project on Interstate 35 in February 2025. The $234 million project will focus on the stretch between 12th Street and Highway 6, upgrading three miles of the highway.

Planned improvements include:
– Expanding to eight main lanes (four in each direction)
– Continuous frontage roads with redesigned ramps
– New sidewalks for pedestrian and bicycle safety
– Rebuilt crossings with U-turn lanes
– Utility and drainage upgrades

The most significant change will be the removal of the northbound flyover at Valley Mills Drive.

This project follows the completion of the I-35 Waco north section in November 2022. Once finished in early 2029, it will complete the I-35 reconstruction through Waco. TXDOT urges drivers to use caution and follow traffic signs during construction.
