Waco K9 officer shot during suspect apprehension, dog in stable condition

Waco, TX – Waco Police Department’s K9 Officer Andor was shot during an attempted apprehension of a suspect on the evening of May 28, 2025.

According to police, officers responded around 6:50 p.m. to a report of a civil disturbance involving a gun in the 2700 block of Homan Avenue, where a caller said a male was threatening to shoot her husband.

Upon arrival, officers began searching for the suspect, who was later located by K9 Officer Andor and his handler in a nearby residence on the 2900 block of Homan Avenue.

When Andor approached the hiding suspect, the man shot the K9 officer in the chest. Andor was immediately transported to a local emergency veterinary facility and is currently reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Darrin King, was taken into custody and charged with six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, interference with police service animals, and possession of a prohibited weapon — all felony offenses.

The Waco Police Department praised the bravery of K9 Officer Andor and his handler, emphasizing the risks law enforcement animals face while protecting the community. The investigation remains ongoing.
