Applications are open for the WPD Junior Police Academy, police officials say

Waco, TX – With the new school year underway, the Waco Police Department shared important safety tips for drivers and students to help keep everyone safe on the roads.

Drivers are advised to maintain a safe distance from school buses, watch carefully for children around buses, and always stop for flashing red lights or stop signs on a bus, unless traveling in the opposite direction on a divided highway with a physical barrier. Violating these rules can result in fines up to $1,250 for a first offense.

Students are reminded to stand back from the curb while waiting for the bus, wait for the driver’s signal before boarding, stay seated during the ride, and only cross the street in front of the bus after making eye contact with the driver.

The department wished all students, teachers, and staff a successful 2024–2025 school year.
