Waco, TX – The Waco Police Department’s Special Crimes Unit has achieved a remarkable 90% clearance and arrest rate in homicide investigations, significantly surpassing the national average of nearly 58%.
Out of eight homicide cases investigated in 2024, seven have been successfully resolved thanks to the diligent work of the Special Crimes Unit, supported by patrol officers, crime scene technicians, and community members who provided crucial information.
However, the department acknowledges one open homicide case remaining from 2024, involving 22-year-old Austin Bower, who was killed in the 1100 block of 6th Street on April 4. Several other cold cases remain under investigation, with details available on the Waco PD website.
The department urges anyone with information about active homicide cases to come forward. Tips can be submitted directly to the Waco Police Department or anonymously through Waco Crime Stoppers Inc., where a reward of up to $2,000 is offered for tips leading to an arrest.
