Harris County, TX – A 22-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a cyclist early Wednesday morning in Harris County.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Airtex Drive and Brundage Drive when the suspect struck the cyclist and fled the scene. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded shortly after the crash but pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased.
Investigators quickly identified the driver as Nyla Gamboa. In the hours following the crash, Gamboa was located at George Bush Intercontinental Airport, where she was attempting to board a flight out of state. She was arrested on charges of failure to stop and render aid, a felony offense related to the fatal crash.
Meanwhile, authorities traced Gamboa’s vehicle to the Timber Crossing neighborhood, near Willow Briar Drive and Bayberry Meadows Lane. The SUV, which had been abandoned, was found running but unoccupied. Investigators believe the vehicle was abandoned shortly after the crash.
Gamboa is currently in custody, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Authorities are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
