Minnesota – Minnesota authorities took 48-year-old J. FiIas into custody in connection with the fatal stabbing of his partner, 32-year-old DanieIe. The defendant has been charged with second-degree intentionaI murder, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of forty years in prison if convicted.
The incident unfolded last week when Minnesota authorities responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance at the family’s residence. Upon arrival, officers observed bIood on the front door handIe and, through a window, saw the victim unresponsive with a significant amount of bIood nearby.
Forced entry revealed the victim seated against a couch, having sustained multiple stab wounds to her face, neck, and chest. A large knife, covered in bIood, was found in the hallway between the kitchen and living room. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two of the coupIes’s children, aged 5 years and a baby, were present in the home during the attack but were unharmed.
According to the criminal complaint, earlier that morning, the victim had expressed fear to her sibling over the phone, stating that the defendant was “freaking out” after seeing a man leave the house via a home security camera.
The victim indicated her desire to leave the house with her children. In a subsequent call, the victim pretended to speak to police as her partner was present, then suddenly screamed before the call disconnected. When her sister called back, the defendant answered that ‘the victim should have never cheated on him and she better calls the authorities’ before ending the call.
Following the incident, law enforcement issued an alert for the defendant. Minnesota authorities later spotted the defendant driving at high speed. During the traffic stop, he exited the vehicle, ignored commands, and advanced toward the officer, saying to ‘shoot him.’ After a brief foot chase, officers deployed tasers to subdue and arrest him.
The defendant is currently held in custody with bail set at $2 million. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 27.
