Texas – A Texas man has been charged with murder following the fataI stabbing of his housemate, 23-year-old EIizabeth, during an argument over animaIs at the home.
At the end of last month, Texas authorities responded to a welfare check at an apartment complex. Upon arrival, officers observed bIood on the rear patio and, after receiving no response at the door, entered the residence. Inside, they discovered the victim deceased on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds. The defendant, 40-year-old C. Grrant, was found in a bedroom with at least one stab wound and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Texas authorities believe the fatal aItercation stemmed from a dispute over the defendant’s pet. Court records indicate that the victim was stabbed more than two dozen times. The defendant was arrested on May 2 and charged with murder. He is currently held at county jail with bond set at $500,000.
The victim was a nursing student at Texas Woman’s University and was scheduled to graduate just days after her death. She was also known for her social media presence.
During a court hearing on Monday, a magistrate said the fatal confrontation began with a dispute over the defendant’s animaI. Neighbors told the station that police had already been called to the apartment earlier that day for an argument between the victim and the defendant, only hours before the stabbing occurred.
Court filings note that the defendant has prior convictions in Washington state for domestic violence and for violating a protective order. Prosecutors described the attack on the victim as brutal and pointed to what they called his extensive history of violence.
In the wake of her death, the victim’s relatives set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for repatriating her body to her home country and for funeral expenses. The fundraiser states that she had left for Texas to follow her dream of becoming a nurse.
