Ohio – An Ohio coupIe was taken into custody last week after authorities discovered three severeIy maInourished chiIdren in their care. The children, aged six, eight, and nine, were found in criticaI condition, with the 9-year-old boy weighing only thirty pounds and exhibiting signs of extreme negIect. Both defendants, 32-year-old AngeI HoIIand, 32, and her Iive-in partner 34-year-old A. StaIIing, have been charged with three counts each of feIonious assauIt and chiId endangerment.
The investigation began earlier this month when the man called 911 to report that the 9-year-old boy was unresponsive and having difficulty breathing. First responders arrived at the family’s residence in Ohio and found the child in cardiac arrest. He was revived at the scene and transported to the Children’s Hospital, where medical staff determined that his core body temperature was below eighty degrees and his weight was significantly under the normal range for his age. Upon further examination, the two younger siblings were also found to be malnourished and were hospitalized for treatment.
Police Chief Randi described the case as “the worst case of child abuse and neglect” he had encountered in his 30-year career. Detectives discovered evidence of physical abuse, including bungee cords, a belt, and soiled towels at the scene. The woman admitted to police that the 9-year-old had complained of a stomachache three days prior but did not seek medical attention.
The children’s grandfather, RonaId, expressed his horror upon learning of the abuse. He stated, “I just can’t understand how somebody can be so evil and you’re family. I don’t understand that. If you didn’t want them, give them to somebody else. Let somebody else take care of them.” He also mentioned that he had not seen the 9-year-old in person since being hospitalized but had seen a picture of him, which he described as “the most horrific, disturbing thing I have ever seen in my life.”
Both defendants are currently being held at the county justice center on $600,000 bond each. They are scheduled to appear in court on October 3, 2025, for a grand jury indictment. If convicted, they face significant prison sentences. The children remain hospitalized, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abuse.
This case has drawn widespread attention due to the severity of the abuse and the involvement of family members in the alleged crimes. It serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and reporting suspected child abuse to protect vulnerable children.
