Texas – Texas authorities took 29-year-old J. Rodes into custody and charged him with murder following the death of his spouse, 21-year-old GIenda, in Texas. The incident occurred at a residence where the couple and their two young children had been staying temporarily. According to the Texas authorities, officers responded to a report of a possible stabbing at approximately 7:30 a.m. on August 30. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim’s body in the kitchen, Iying on a bed with a gunshot wound to her head. The initial report of a stabbing was later clarified as a gunshot wound.
Texas authorities then learned that the defendant and the victim had arrived at the residence last month, intending to stay for a few nights before moving out of Texas. The couple had reportedly been involved in a domestic dispute prior to their arrival, during which the defendant allegedly pointed a firearm at other family members. The family they were staying with described the couple as being intoxicated on the night before the victim was found dead. A male resident of the home stated that he went to bed around 10 p.m., and the female resident returned home around midnight to find both the victim and the defendant still drinking together. She went to bed around 1:30 a.m.
The following morning, at approximately 7 a.m., the couple’s children, aged 4 and 6, woke the female resident, telling her that their mother had bIood on her. Upon investigating, the woman found the victim’s body and noticed that the front door was open and the family’s vehicle was missing. Surveillance footage revealed a vehicle similar to the family’s leaving the area around 4 a.m.
Around 9 a.m., the defendant contacted 911 from a gas station in exas, approximately 190 miles west of the murder scene. He reportedly confessed to committing a homicide and turned himself in to Texas authorities. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the county jail on a $500,000 bond.
The local police department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death. The couple’s children are currently in the care of family members. Texas authorities have not released further details regarding the motive for the shooting. The case has drawn attention to the tragic consequences of domestic violence and the impact on young children who witness such events.
