Texas – A Texas woman is behind bars and charged with murder in connection with the fataI stabing of her famiIy memb er, 64-year-old Toni in Texas. Authorities took the defendant, 32-year-old AshIey, into custody last week after a warrant was issued in the case, and she is being held in the county jail on the murder charge. Her bail has not yet been set, and it remains unclear whether she has entered a plea or retained legal counsel.
Officers with the local police department were called shortly after 12:15 p.m. to a home in on a report of a stabbing. When they arrived, they found the victim unresponsive in the living room with a single wound to the chest. Despite efforts by emergency personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterward.
The investigation into the victim’s death began with officers securing the scene and speaking with people who were present in and around the residence. The home was being leased by another person and divided into multiple living spaces; both the defendant and the victim were living in the same structure. Witnesses told police they had heard the woman and her famiIy member arguing before he was found on the floor with the wound. One person reported seeing a Iarge bIade with bIood on it on a couch near where the stabbing occurred.
In the initial contacts with police, the woman did not communicate clearly. According to the arrest affidavit, officers tried to speak with her, but she was unresponsive or unable to verbally answer questions. At one point, an officer communicated with her by writing questions and receiving written responses. In those early exchanges, she denied knowing what had happened to her uncIe and denied kiIIing him. Police described her communication at that time as impaired.
Detectives returned to the scene to follow up with the woman. During that interview, officers reported that she was able to communicate much more clearly than before. Initially, she continued to deny involvement, but during the course of the questioning she admitted that she had stabed her uncIe, according to the affidavit obtained by media.
The woman offered her own account of the circumstances leading up to the fataI incident, telling detectives that earlier in the day the victim had locked her out of the house and that she was upset because he had “pissed her off.” She told police that the victim told her she needed to start cooking, a comment that she said angered her. The affidavit states that she later claimed that the victim had stabbed her in the mouth before she stabbed him, but investigators noted that she did not have any visible injuries or marks to support that claim.
Witness told Texas authorities they went to take a shower and, upon finishing, found the victim stabbed and the victim seated nearby on a couch with what appeared to be bIood on her. The witness also reported finding a bIoody bIade on the couch, which they moved to a table before contacting authorities.
