Waco, TX – On December 28, a Woodway man was arrested after allegedly starting a fire in his family’s home, causing significant damage to a bedroom. Officers with the Woodway Public Safety Department were called to the scene in the 1300 block of Western Oaks Drive, where they found the suspect, identified as Douglas, outside the residence.
According to the arrest warrant, the suspect’s father contacted authorities, claiming that his son had deliberately set fire to a bedroom in an attempt to burn down the house. Upon arriving at the scene, officers took Douglas into custody.
The affidavit revealed that Douglas, once informed of his Miranda Rights, admitted to using gasoline to douse the walls, floor, and closet of the bedroom before setting the fire. He allegedly confessed that his intention was to destroy the house where his parents lived. No further details regarding the extent of the fire damage were provided in the report.
At this time, authorities have not released information about whether anyone was injured in the blaze. Douglas is currently being held at the McLennan County Jail, with a bond set at $20,000. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
