According to the police officials, the 62-year-old suspect, later identified Christina, reportedly drove to her estranged husband’s home, walked in while the 80-year-old man, Jon, was sleeping and shot him because she didn’t want to divorce. Christina was taken into custody and later charged with multiple charges, including: attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.
Prosecutors later revealed that the woman will also be charged with forgery because she stole checks, forged one for $10,000 and cashed it. First responders arrived on scene a found the 80-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his wrist. They rushed the victim to a local hospital. Police later revealed that the victim and the 62-year-old suspect were separated for months and were divorcing.
The 80-year-old man reportedly changed the locks at his home, but the keys and other items had gone missing, officers said. He suspected his estranged wife had taken them. During an interview with investigators, the 62-year-old woman reportedly said that she did not want to get divorced. The woman then drover to her estranged husband’s home. When she arrived the victim was in bed.
She then came into the bedroom where a verbal argument occurred about the divorce. The 80-year-old man reportedly told her that he still wanted the divorce and refused to change his mind. Christina then shot him while he was still in bed, police officials said. The 80-year-old victim then managed to knock her down and she dropped the gun. The victim was able to escape after striking Christina with his hands and elbows. Jon then walked to his neighbor’s home and called the authorities.
