Man who told his girIfriend he wanted to start a family with her, only to get upset when she revealed her feelings and told him that she didn’t want to have a chiId with him, then kiIIed her, was sentenced

Texas – A Texas man was ordered to serve four decades behind bars after pleading no contest to the murder of his girlfriend, 22-year-old J. AIvarez. The sentencing was handed down by Judge Cristine on March 24, 2025. In addition to the murder charge, the 25-year-old man, A. Bird, faced two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

He received 15-year sentences for each robbery charge and a two-year sentence for the drug charge; all sentences are to be served concurrently, which means at the same time. The defendant must serve half of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

The case originated in April 2023, when authorities in Texas discovered the victim’s body around 6:30 a.m.. She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. A witness later informed authorities that she had been with the victim the previous evening.

The victim had used the witness’s phone to communicate with her boyfriend, who requested that she be dropped off at a location between 10:30 and 11 p.m. The witness complied, and that was the last time she saw the woman alive.

On April 12, 2023, the defendant was arrested in connection with an aggravated robbery. During an interview with detectives, he confessed to both the robbery and his girIfriend’s murder. He reportedly revealed that he had asked the woman to meet him at the location, where they engaged in an argument.

The dispute arose because the defendant wanted to have a child with the victim, but she did not share this desire. In the heat of the argument, he used the same firearm from the earlier robbery to fatally shoot the woman.

The 25-year-old man allegedly told authorities in Texas that the argument began when he expressed his desire to have a child with the victim, but she responded that she did not want a child with him, according to an affidavit obtained by KENS. Moments after she shared her feelings, he shot her multiple times before fleeing the scene.

The victim’s family expressed dissatisfaction with the sentencing. Her grandmother, Ritta, delivered an emotional victim impact statement, describing the 40-year sentence as “a slap in the face” and emphasizing the profound loss their family has endured. She highlighted the ongoing pain experienced by the victim’s young son, who frequently asks to visit his mother’s grave.

This tragic incident underscores the devastating consequences that can arise from unresolved personal disputes and highlights the importance of seeking constructive solutions to conflicts.
