Commissioner Sid Miller supports Trump’s new tariffs, aiming to protect American farmers

Texas Agriculture Commissioner warns residents about unsolicited seed and liquid packages

Texas – Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has publicly voiced his strong support for President Donald Trump’s recent announcement regarding new tariffs, which aim to protect American industries from unfair trade practices.

The tariffs were introduced as part of Trump’s broader strategy to reverse decades of one-sided trade agreements and secure more favorable deals for U.S. industries, particularly agriculture.

In a statement released on April 3, 2025, Miller emphasized the bold nature of the president’s approach, noting that the world is quickly realizing that in his second term, President Trump is committed to ensuring that the U.S. secures fair and equitable deals across all sectors. He specifically highlighted the importance of addressing trade imbalances that have long disadvantaged American farmers, ranchers, and producers.

“President Trump doesn’t often hold back—and yesterday was no exception,” Miller said, referring to the president’s announcement of the new tariffs. “The world is quickly realizing that in his second term, you either strike a fair deal or face the consequences.”

Miller acknowledged the short-term challenges that could arise for American agriculture due to the tariffs, but he reassured the public that the broader goal is to secure long-term, fair trade agreements.

He emphasized that the tariffs are part of a larger effort to protect U.S. farmers from unfair competition and to reverse the impact of trade deals that have not benefited the agricultural sector.

While there is concern that the tariffs could disrupt trade in the short term, Miller expressed confidence that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), under the leadership of Secretary Brooke Rollins, will provide the necessary resources to support farmers and ranchers during the transition.
