Texas Department of Agriculture mobilizes resources to assist Central Texas after severe flooding

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Miller welcomed 12.2-million-dollar cooperative agreement with the United States Department of Agriculture to administer the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure program

Texas – In the wake of devastating flooding across Central Texas, Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has directed the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) to deploy critical resources to support farmers, ranchers, and rural communities affected by the disaster.

With Governor Greg Abbott issuing disaster declarations for multiple counties including Bexar, Kerr, and Travis, the TDA has activated programs such as the STAR Fund, Hay and Feed Hotline, and the AgriStress Helpline to provide relief and assistance during this challenging time.

“This is one of the worst natural disasters to hit the Lone Star State,” Commissioner Miller said. “Families are in shock, farms are flooded, fencing has been destroyed, and worst of all, lives have been lost. During this challenging period, TDA is prepared to assist Texans affected by the situation. I ask that you continue to pray for the victims and first responders. We must stand together in times of sorrow and despair.”

Resources deployed include:

  • AgriStress Helpline: A 24/7 mental health support line staffed by professionals who understand rural challenges. Texans experiencing mental health crises can call 833-897-2474 for assistance.

  • STAR Fund: The State of Texas Agriculture Relief Fund provides disaster recovery support to eligible farmers, ranchers, and agribusinesses located in declared disaster counties. Funded by private donations, it helps with rebuilding and relief needs.

  • Hay and Feed Hotline: A free service connecting hay providers with ranchers in need, facilitating donations especially during emergencies.

Commissioner Miller emphasized TDA’s commitment to working closely with state and federal partners to aid recovery efforts and called on all Texans to unite in support and prayer for those impacted.

“The loss is unimaginable. There is still more work to be done, and together, we can continue to support our fellow Texans,” Miller said.
