Waco, TX – City of Waco staff marked the completion of the new transfer station with a luncheon and a drive-by parade featuring solid waste trucks.
The transfer station will serve as a hub where residential and commercial waste is consolidated before being transported to the landfill.
For the next several months, the facility and the new landfill will only be open to Solid Waste trucks as crews establish a protective fluff layer of softer trash that safeguards the landfill liner.
Public access to the new site is expected to begin in spring 2026. Until then, residents are directed to continue using the current landfill on Hannah Hill Road.
City officials credited the Solid Waste team for their work in bringing the project online and thanked City Council for its support in guiding the transition to the new facilities.
