Waco, TX – The Waco Police Department has received the Community Partners Award from Waco Independent School District in recognition of its ongoing work with students, schools and families across the community.
The department was recognized for several initiatives carried out in partnership with Waco ISD, including its annual Trunk or Treat event, which brings together nearly 3,000 community members for Halloween celebrations.
Waco police also support student engagement through the department-led Police Athletic/Activity League (PALS) program and the Law Enforcement Against Drugs and Violence (L.E.A.D.) curriculum, which focuses on educating young people about the dangers of drugs and violence.
Additional efforts include visits to school career days, classroom appearances, after-school programs and a Red Ribbon Week SWARM demonstration at Waco ISD schools.
The department’s Crimes Against Children detectives also work with the school district on investigations and referrals involving children.
Waco police said they were proud of their partnership with the district and thanked Waco ISD for the recognition.
