Texas – Governor Greg Abbott has ordered the Texas Rangers to investigate the City of Elgin amid allegations of financial mismanagement and potential violations of state law.
In a statement, Governor Abbott said the investigation was prompted by accusations of chronic financial mismanagement, including inconsistent accounting practices and unreconciled bank accounts.
He emphasized that Texans expect their elected officials to manage taxpayer dollars responsibly, operate transparently, and comply with state law.
Under the Governor’s direction, the Texas Rangers will review the City of Elgin’s budgeting processes and financial practices. Any charges resulting from the investigation will be referred to the appropriate prosecutorial authorities for further action.
