Texas – Governor Greg Abbott joined state and local officials to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Entergy Legend and Lone Star power stations, a major expansion of Texas’ energy infrastructure expected to add 1,200 megawatts of electricity capacity in Southeast Texas.
Officials said the new power generation facilities will provide more reliable and affordable electricity and are designed to support growing demand from families, businesses, and industry in the region.
The added capacity is expected to power more than 300,000 homes.
During the ceremony, Abbott said Texas continues to lead the nation in energy production, citing the state’s rankings in oil, gas, wind, solar, and battery storage output.
He emphasized ongoing efforts to expand grid capacity and strengthen long-term energy reliability.
Entergy leaders said the projects reflect continued investment in Southeast Texas, noting the region’s workforce, infrastructure, and economic growth.
They added that the new facilities will help meet rising energy demand while supporting job creation and development.
The governor was joined at the event by Entergy Corporation leadership and other state and local officials.
