Texas – Sid Miller praised Donald Trump for considering suspending the federal gas tax for a temporary period to provide relief to American families and agriculture producers.
According to Miller, suspending the federal gas tax would provide immediate financial relief to consumers while helping offset rising fuel costs.
Miller said he previously called on both Greg Abbott and Trump to temporarily suspend state and federal motor fuels taxes to help families dealing with higher gasoline prices.
In a statement released Tuesday, Miller said Trump’s consideration of the proposal demonstrates “bold, decisive leadership” and said the president understands the importance of American energy production to the economy and national security.
Miller also renewed his call for Abbott to suspend Texas fuel taxes, noting that governors in Indiana, Georgia, and Utah have already taken similar steps.
The commissioner said Texas agriculture producers continue facing drought conditions, high input costs, and economic uncertainty, adding that fuel prices affect nearly every aspect of the agricultural industry, including planting, harvesting, livestock transportation, and grocery distribution.
