Waco, TX – The Waco Fire Department marked the anniversary of the Imperial Woodworks fire, a major incident that occurred 27 years ago and caused significant damage in downtown Waco.
According to the department, the fire at 323 S. 6th Street destroyed an entire downtown block and nearly claimed the lives of two firefighters who responded to the scene.
Officials noted that the area has since been rebuilt and now houses several businesses, including AC Hotel Waco, the Waco Welcome Center, and Kilwins Ice Cream.
The department said the transformation of the site reflects the resilience of the community and its ability to recover and rebuild following devastating events.
