Police officials said the 38-year-old man, later identified as Richard, was arrested and later charged with mansIaughter, assauIt in the first degree, assauIt in the second degree and possession of a firearm as someone convicted of a vioIent felony in connection with his roommate’s death. During an interview with investigators, the 38-year-old suspect reportedly claimed that he killed the 27-year-old roommate, Dominique, in seIf-defence.
The 38-year-old suspect also told investigators that he called the authorities after he went back to sleep, buying drugs, and talking with friends who told him to call 911. During an interview with investigators, Richard reportedly said that he was sleeping in the living room when he woke up around 5 a.m. because his roommate was making a lot of noise.
The 27-year-old roommate was reportedly yelling and looking for the remote. According to Richard, the 27-year-old victim walked into the living room and was holding two Iarge knives. Richard then grabbed his gun and pointed it at his roommate. The 38-year-old man reportedly shot his roommate when he approached, court records say. According to Richard, his roommate then ran upstairs.
The 38-year-old suspect also told police that he didn’t saw any bIood and didn’t think he actually shot his roommate. Richard then went back to sleep. When he woke up, he went to see a friend, bought marljuana and returned home to smoke. After talking to several friends about the incident, Richard called the authorities. The responding officers found the 27-year-old roommate dead in his room. The victim reportedly had a knife in each hand and a third in his waistband, court records say.
