Texas – Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller issued a statement on January 9, 2026, praising a settlement led by Attorney General Ken Paxton that addresses how fluoride toothpaste is marketed to children.
Miller commended Paxton for what he described as an effort to prioritize children’s health and protect Texas families from misleading product packaging. The settlement requires Procter and Gamble to accurately depict the recommended pea-sized amount of toothpaste for children, rather than images showing larger quantities that contradict usage instructions.
In his statement, Miller emphasized that parents should be able to trust product labels when teaching basic hygiene habits, such as brushing teeth. He argued that images encouraging excessive fluoride use are misleading and inappropriate, particularly given documented health risks associated with overuse.
Miller said he has long advocated for greater transparency and what he called “common sense” regarding fluoride, especially in products intended for children. He added that misleading marketing practices undermine parental trust at a time when families are focused on establishing healthy routines.
According to Miller, the settlement demonstrates Texas’ leadership in consumer and child protection. He reiterated his support for parental choice and truthful labeling, stating that he stands with the attorney general in efforts aimed at safeguarding the health and well-being of Texas children.
