Waco, TX – The City of Waco will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the Barron’s Branch District, marking the beginning of construction on the first phase of the city’s Downtown Redevelopment Project.
The ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at the corner of University Parks Drive and Jefferson Avenue.
The 30-acre Barron’s Branch project is planned to transform a long-underused area near the Brazos River into a new destination featuring public spaces, recreational areas and opportunities for future development.
The project will create approximately 19 acres of new development space and a signature public park designed to provide residents with places to gather, connect, play and enjoy the outdoors.
Plans for the district include creekside trails, outdoor plazas, water features, flexible event lawns, an entertainment pavilion and a sculptural pedestrian bridge.
The area will also include spaces intended to support future restaurants, retail businesses and other private development.
The project is expected to address longstanding floodplain and infrastructure challenges while creating new connections to the riverfront.
The city described the development as a major investment in Waco’s future and said the groundbreaking will mark the beginning of a new chapter for downtown Waco.
Residents are invited to attend the ceremony and join city leaders, community partners and fellow Wacoans in celebrating the start of the project.
