Texas – Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller praised the recent passage of the Farm Bill in the U.S. House, calling it a significant step forward for farmers, ranchers, and rural communities across the country.
In a statement released from Austin, Miller said the legislation sends a strong signal that lawmakers in Washington are responding to the needs of agricultural producers who have faced rising costs and ongoing economic pressures.
“The House passage of the Farm Bill is a major win for American agriculture and a clear message that Washington is finally listening to our farmers, ranchers, and rural communities,” Miller said.
He pointed to ongoing challenges in the agricultural sector, including increasing input costs, unstable markets, and regulatory burdens, saying producers need stability to continue operating effectively.
“Our producers are facing skyrocketing input costs, volatile markets, and crushing regulations. They need certainty, not more uncertainty,” Miller said. “This Farm Bill delivers by strengthening the farm safety net, investing in rural America, and providing real relief at the grocery store.”
Miller also framed the legislation as a matter of national importance beyond agriculture, emphasizing the connection between food production and national security.
“This isn’t just about food security — it’s about national security,” he said. “Our farmland is a strategic national asset and must remain in American hands, period.”
He highlighted efforts to restrict foreign ownership of U.S. agricultural land, specifically referencing policies aimed at preventing countries such as China from purchasing farmland in the United States. Miller said he supports provisions in the bill that would reinforce those restrictions.
Miller urged the U.S. Senate to move quickly on the legislation and send a final version of the Farm Bill to Donald Trumpfor approval.
“Now the Senate must act swiftly and send a strong final Farm Bill to President Trump — one that protects our producers, defends our land, and secures our food supply for generations,” he said.
The Farm Bill is a comprehensive piece of legislation that typically covers a wide range of agricultural and food programs, including subsidies, conservation efforts, and nutrition assistance. Lawmakers are expected to continue negotiations as the bill moves through the Senate.
Miller said Texas farmers and ranchers are closely watching the process as it advances in Congress.
