Texas – Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that more than $2.4 million in Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants have been awarded to 10 schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the $2,401,082 in funding will support career and technical education programs by helping schools purchase and install equipment used to train students for high-demand careers.
Officials said the grants are expected to initially train approximately 3,250 students for occupations including aircraft mechanics, service technicians, registered nurses, welders, and commercial drivers.
Abbott said the funding will help equip students with the tools needed to succeed in a growing and diverse economy, emphasizing the importance of workforce readiness for the state’s future.
TWC Chairman Joe Esparza said the grants will help prepare thousands of students in the Metroplex for successful careers while strengthening the state’s workforce pipeline.
The awards were presented during a ceremony at Dallas College Garland Center, where state and local officials joined school representatives to recognize the funding recipients.
The grants were distributed among multiple school districts and colleges, including Anna ISD, Dallas College, Duncanville ISD, Grayson College, Henrietta ISD, Life School of Dallas, Paris Junior College, Prosper ISD, Sunnyvale ISD, and Tom Bean ISD.
Officials said the JET grant program, funded by the Texas Legislature, helps offset startup costs for developing or expanding career and technical education programs. Equipment purchased through the grants must be used to train students for high-demand occupations.
