AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department is highlighting mental health awareness after Mayor Kirk Watson issued a proclamation recognizing the importance of ongoing mental health support across the community.
The department shared the proclamation ahead of the end of May, noting that mental health awareness requires continued community involvement, partnerships, and efforts to reduce stigma and barriers to care.
In its statement, the Austin Police Department encouraged residents to check in on themselves and others and to seek support when needed, emphasizing that mental health is a year-round priority rather than a one-month observance.
Officers from the department were seen holding the proclamation in a photo shared on social media.
City officials and law enforcement leaders said the goal of the proclamation is to reinforce available resources and remind the public that help is accessible for those experiencing mental health challenges.
