Waco, TX – The Waco Fire Department is accepting registrations for its 6th annual Citizens Fire Academy, giving McLennan County residents an opportunity to experience what it takes to become a firefighter through classroom instruction and hands-on training.
The academy is open to McLennan County residents who are at least 18 years old and will be held on Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. between Sept. 3 and Oct. 1.
Participants will learn about the daily responsibilities of firefighters through a combination of classroom lessons and interactive demonstrations designed to provide a behind-the-scenes look at the department’s operations.
The Citizens Fire Academy is intended to strengthen community relationships by educating residents about fire service operations, emergency response, and the skills firefighters use to protect the community.
Officials said class space is limited and encouraged interested residents to reserve a spot as soon as possible.
Those interested in participating can RSVP through the City of Waco’s website.
