Waco Teenager Sentenced to 14 Years for Gang-Related Shooting

Waco, TX – The Waco Police Department announced two additional arrests Friday in connection with a shooting and homicide that left one man dead and another injured earlier this week.

Police said 17-year-old Jayden Mendez was arrested and charged with deadly conduct. Eighteen-year-old Marcus Hardin was also arrested and charged with riot/murder.

The latest arrests followed an investigation into the Aug. 23 shooting in the 3600 block of N. 20th Street.

Officers were called to the area at approximately 5:02 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, the suspected individuals were no longer at the scene.

Police located two victims, a 28-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, and immediately began providing life-saving measures. Both victims were transported to a hospital by AMR.

The 28-year-old victim was later pronounced dead. Police identified him as 28-year-old Victor Jesus Silva-Delgadillo.

The 19-year-old victim was expected to recover.

Police previously announced two arrests in the investigation on Aug. 24. Eighteen-year-old Brayan Hernandez was charged with tampering with physical evidence, while 20-year-old Leonardo Servin was charged with deadly conduct.

According to police, all parties involved knew each other, and investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident.

The department said the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to contact the Waco Police Department at 254-750-7500. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 254-753-HELP (4357).

Police said an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip that leads to an arrest could result in a reward of up to $2,000.

The case marked the fourth homicide investigation in Waco in 2026.
