Waco, TX – The Waco-McLennan County Library recorded strong participation during its 2026 Summer Reading Challenge, with thousands of residents taking part in reading, programs and activities throughout the summer.
The City of Waco said readers of all ages participated in the Summer of Stories 2026 program, spending the summer reading books, attending library programs and completing activities across the community.
A total of 4,487 participants took part in the summer reading challenge, collectively logging 117,376 days of reading.
Of those participants, 2,193 completed the full challenge.
The program also drew significant participation in library programming, with 6,236 people attending programs throughout the summer. Participants also redeemed 12,092 prizes as part of the challenge.
In addition, 2,111 activities were completed during the summer program, giving participants opportunities to remain engaged beyond reading alone.
The library thanked everyone who participated in the Summer of Stories 2026 and helped make the program a success.
The results highlighted the broad community participation in the summer program, with readers of different ages taking part in activities and library programs while continuing to build reading habits throughout the summer.
