Florida – A parent and her spouse from Florida were arrested last week and now face charges of child abuse and neglect after a disturbing incident involving the woman’s 10-year-old child.

According to authorities, the incident unfolded when the man, 42-year-old Georgi, reportedly became upset after the child got into a dispute with her sibling. In response, he allegedly grabbed the girl by the arm, dragged her into the kitchen, and forced her hand onto a hot cooktop. The child sustained severe burns, with the injury reportedly causing the skin to peel away, leaving a burn pattern consistent with the shape of the cooktop coil.

The child, in visible pain, is said to have retreated to her room and contacted her mother, who was not at home at the time. Despite being made aware of what had happened, the mother, 36-year-old M. AdecIat, allegedly took no steps to address her daughter’s injuries or to get her medical treatment.

The situation came to light the following Monday, when the child’s educator noticed the burn injury on the child’s hand and contacted authorities. This prompted a police investigation (SEE PHOTO).

During the investigation, officers arrested the man and charged him with aggravated child abuse causing great bodily harm. The mother was charged with child neglect causing great bodily harm. In addition to these charges, during her arrest, the woman allegedly resisted officers by swinging her fists and pushing them away. As a result, she is also facing charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.

A judge has determined there is probable cause for the primary child neglect charge against the mother. However, it remains unclear whether probable cause has been established for the additional charges.

Authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the case. The incident underscores the importance of safeguarding children and the responsibilities of caregivers in preventing abuse and responding appropriately when harm occurs.
