Gov. Greg Abbott calls New York governor a “loser” and says Texas’s lead in new jobs will continue forever following NBA Finals loss

Governor Abbott Appoints Judge Lee Harris to Waco’s 10th Court of Appeals

Texas – Texas Governor Greg Abbott sparked attention earlier this week after posting a direct insult aimed at New York Governor Kathy Hochul, escalating a social media exchange that mixed political rivalry, sports commentary, and economic comparisons between Texas and New York.

“What a loser Hochul is,” Abbott wrote, responding to earlier remarks tied to Texas’ business rankings and an ongoing back-and-forth between the two governors. He referenced Texas leading the nation in Fortune 500 headquarters, a position previously held by New York, and claimed the state’s advantage in business and job growth would continue “forever.”

The exchange also stemmed from Abbott’s earlier June 1 post referencing the NBA Finals storyline between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks. At the time, Abbott wrote, “Spurs about to dunk on Knicks like Texas has been dunking on New York,” adding, “Go Spurs Go.”

However, the series ultimately ended in New York’s favor. The Knicks defeated the Spurs 4–1 in the 2026 NBA Finals, securing the championship and finishing the series with a Game 5 victory of 94–90.

Following Abbott’s June 15 comments, Governor Kathy Hochul responded briefly on social media, writing, “Aged like milk,” in reference to the Spurs’ loss in the championship series and Abbott’s earlier prediction.

The online exchange gained traction as it blended sports rivalry with political and economic messaging, drawing attention to the governors’ contrasting remarks about business leadership and cultural competition between the two states.

An image circulating online captured the full exchange between the governors, including Abbott’s posts and Hochul’s response, further amplifying the public back-and-forth.
