Texas – Governor Greg Abbott recently hosted Governor Hideaki Ohmura of Japan’s Aichi Prefecture at the Governor’s Mansion in Austin to strengthen the longstanding economic relationship between Texas and Japan. The meeting focused on trade, investment opportunities, and educational cooperation between the two regions.
The two governors highlighted the success of a previous Statement of Mutual Cooperation signed during Governor Abbott’s economic development mission to Japan in 2023. This agreement has served as a framework for increasing trade and investment between Texas and Aichi Prefecture, a key industrial and manufacturing hub in Japan.
During their meeting, both leaders discussed expanding collaboration in critical sectors, particularly the automotive industry. Texas continues to attract global businesses due to its low taxes, strong infrastructure, and skilled labor force. Governor Abbott emphasized these advantages and reiterated Texas’ openness to international investment and partnerships.
Governor Ohmura noted the strong ties between Japanese and Texan academic institutions, including student exchange programs and joint research initiatives. He stated that continued cooperation in education and innovation was essential to strengthening the broader economic partnership.
Both leaders also acknowledged the importance of the U.S.–Japan alliance and expressed mutual interest in reinforcing trade and investment links. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to further developing the strategic and economic relationship between Texas and Japan.
