Henderson ISD Teacher Arrested on Charges of Inappropriate Relationship with Student
Waco, TX — A 35-year-old agriculture teacher at Henderson Independent School District (ISD) has been arrested and charged with multiple felony offenses, including possession of child pornography, indecency with a child, and having an improper relationship with a student. Kathryn Laraine Prior, a resident of Henderson, was taken into custody following an investigation by the Henderson Police Department.
Police received information earlier this week regarding allegations that Prior had engaged in inappropriate conduct with a student. The affidavit states that Prior allegedly exchanged explicit photos and text messages with the victim and had inappropriate physical contact with the student. Henderson ISD responded to the allegations by placing Prior on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
On Wednesday, the district confirmed that Prior had submitted her resignation, effective immediately. Prior had been employed by Henderson ISD since 2019, serving as an agriculture teacher. Her arrest and subsequent resignation have raised concerns within the local community, particularly among parents and students who had known her in a professional capacity. “The district takes these allegations very seriously and is committed to fully cooperating with law enforcement,” said the district in a statement released shortly after the arrest. “We will continue to support our students and staff while ensuring that any inappropriate behavior is addressed in accordance with district policies.”
Prior has been released on a collective bond of $150,000, according to jail records. She is currently awaiting further legal proceedings. The case has drawn significant attention, with many questioning how such an incident could occur within a school district. Legal experts say the charges against Prior could result in serious consequences, including long-term prison sentences, if she is convicted.
As of now, authorities continue to investigate the case, and additional details are expected to emerge as the legal process unfolds. The district has promised to take appropriate actions to ensure the safety and well-being of its students, while community members are left grappling with the disturbing news.
