Texas – Public safety personnel from across Texas came together during National Police Week in Washington, D.C., to honor officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.
According to the Austin Police Department, members of APD joined personnel from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Austin-Travis County EMS, Austin Fire Department, the University of Texas Police Department, and the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife to form the Texas First Responder Memorial Pipe Band.
The band spent the past nine months rehearsing, with many members dedicating personal time to prepare for the events held during National Police Week.
The Texas First Responder Memorial Pipe Band participated in the National Memorial Service at the United States Capitol, as well as the National Emerald Society Parade and memorial events honoring fallen officers.
The group also competed in the 23rd annual Honor Guard and Pipe and Drum Competition, where the band earned third place among eight competing bands.
Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis and the Department recognized the dedication, teamwork, and interagency cooperation displayed by the public safety personnel involved in the band, while also honoring the sacrifices made by fallen officers and the families they left behind.
