Texas – Greg Abbott directed the Texas Department of Public Safety to expand the Texas Repeat Offender Task Force into the Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Austin metropolitan areas.
Abbott said the expansion builds on the ongoing Houston-area operation, which is a joint effort between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies focused on targeting violent repeat offenders.
The governor said the task force aims to reduce crime, increase public safety, and support law enforcement officers by removing dangerous repeat offenders from Texas communities.
According to state officials, since launching in October, the task force has resulted in 728 arrests of repeat offenders, including 455 identified as high-threat offenders.
Officials said the operation also encountered 155 known gang members and led to arrests tied to several violent gangs, including Puro Tango Blast, MS-13, the Bloods, and the Crips.
The task force has also carried out 225 drug seizures, including more than 225,000 lethal doses of fentanyl, along with methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana.
Additional enforcement actions included weapon and currency seizures as well as recovered stolen vehicles.
Abbott also referenced recent bail reform measures signed into law aimed at keeping violent repeat offenders behind bars and increasing accountability in the criminal justice system.
