Texas – A Texas couple, 29-year-old Casandra Lenge and 30-year-old Jobi WiIIiams, were arrested and charged with capital murder after investigators say the bodies of a married couple were discovered in a ditch, launching a multi-agency investigation that quickly escalated into a homicide case involving family members, stolen property, and evidence recovered across multiple Texas counties.
According to the MCSO, both defendants are accused of killing 54-year-old Chery, and her spouse, 58-year-old Stephen, at their home in a rural area earlier this month. The 29-year-old woman is identified by Texas authorities as the biological daughter of the 54-year-old victim, a detail investigators say is central to understanding the family-linked nature of the case.
Sheriff Brown said investigators believe the killings occurred inside the couple’s home before their bodies were transported and later concealed in a remote area. Texas authorities stated that the female victim was believed to have been killed first, followed by her spouse when he returned home from work. The medical examiner has been working to determine the official cause of death, though investigators have said evidence collected at the scene indicates both strangulation and knife-related injuries were involved.
The investigation began when a coworker reported the 58-year-old victim missing after he failed to appear at work, prompting a welfare check. Deputies responded to the residence and observed suspicious evidence, including bloody items found in a trash can placed near the curb. That discovery led to the involvement of criminal investigators and the execution of a search warrant at the property.
During the initial search, investigators located additional physical evidence suggesting a violent crime had occurred. Law enforcement also identified vehicles belonging to the victims, which became a key focus in the early stages of the investigation. Using tracking technology and interagency coordination, authorities located one of the vehicles in the area, significantly advancing the case within hours.
The CCPD’s gang unit conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, where both defendants were found along with two children, a 6-year-old girl and a 1-month-old infant. Texas authorities confirmed that the woman is the biological mother of both children, while her partner is the biological father of only the infant. The older child was later placed in the custody of her biological father, while the infant was taken into Child Protective Services care.
Officials said the 30-year-old man had a fresh hand injury that required medical attention prior to his detention. Following their apprehension, a chief deputy and a Texas Ranger traveled to conduct interviews with both suspects. During questioning, investigators say the 29-year-old defendant confessed to involvement in the killings of her mother and stepfather, while her partner initially provided inconsistent statements about what occurred.
Following the confession, Texas authorities began a search of ravines and remote terrain based on information provided during the interviews. Law enforcement teams combed areas of dense brush and difficult terrain for several hours. Early the next morning, deputies located evidence along a roadway near FM 1283, which led them down into a steep ravine approximately 73 feet below road level.
There, investigators discovered two large black bags containing the bodies of both victims. Fire personnel assisted in recovering the remains, which were transported to the medical examiner’s office for autopsy and further forensic examination.
During the course of the investigation, Texas authorities also reported that property was stolen from the residence, including firearms, cash, tools, and a vehicle belonging to the victims. Investigators have been working to trace the missing items and determine whether any of the property was pawned or transferred after the killings. At this stage, officials have not confirmed a clear motive, though they continue to examine financial records, personal relationships, and prior family interactions.
Sheriff Brown stated that both suspects were initially held on bonds set at or below $200,000, which were later increased to $1 million surety bonds due to the severity of the charges and the evolving evidence in the case. WiIIiams remained in custody, while his partner was transported back shortly after arrest.
Texas authorities emphasized that the investigation remains active, with forensic analysis, digital evidence review, and additional witness interviews still underway as prosecutors prepare for formal capital murder proceedings.
