Waco, TX – The Waco Fire Department reported that its Technical Rescue Team joined multiple agencies in rescuing dozens of people from vehicles trapped by flash flooding following heavy rainfall on the night of June 14.
According to the Department, a short period of intense rain caused extensive flash flooding across the area, leaving numerous motorists stranded in rising water. Rescue efforts involved members of the Waco Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team, the Texas Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue team, Texas Game Wardens, and personnel from several other agencies.
Emergency responders worked throughout the flooding event to reach stranded individuals and bring them to safety. The Department said dozens of people were rescued from trapped vehicles as floodwaters quickly covered roadways.
Following the incident, officials reminded the public of the dangers associated with driving through flooded areas and reiterated the safety message, “Turn Around Don’t Drown,” which is commonly used to discourage motorists from entering flooded roads.
