Waco, TX – Major closures will be in place along I-35 in Waco this weekend as the Texas Department of Transportation and its contractor remove the westbound South Valley Mills Drive bridge over the interstate.
The bridge removal is part of the My35 Waco South Construction Project. Work is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, and is expected to be completed by 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 30.
During the operation, all I-35 mainlanes between New Road and 17th Street will be closed.
Crossings will also be closed at several locations in the area. The closures will affect eastbound and westbound crossings at 17th and 18th streets, South Valley Mills Drive, and Irving Lee Street/Primrose Drive.
New Road and 12th Street will remain open during the closure, allowing eastbound and westbound traffic to cross I-35 and providing turnaround movements.
The closures are expected to have a significant impact on traffic through the Waco area while crews conduct the bridge removal.
Drivers traveling through the work zone were urged to slow down, eliminate distractions and pay close attention to traffic conditions and construction activity.
Motorists were encouraged to plan ahead and allow additional travel time while the closures are in effect.
