Waco, TX – The Waco Police Department shared that its cadets recently completed a key part of their academy training known as “spray day.”
During the exercise, cadets were exposed to pepper spray, also known as oleoresin capsicum (OC), while carrying out a series of tactical maneuvers.
The training is designed to simulate real-world conditions officers may face in the field.
Department officials said the experience challenges cadets to continue functioning despite the intense effects, including burning eyes and blurred vision.
The exercise is intended to build resilience and prepare future officers to remain effective under pressure.
The department noted that the training remains a long-standing tradition within the academy, helping ensure cadets understand both the physical effects of pepper spray and the importance of maintaining composure during critical situations.
