Waco, TX — The Waco Police Department is recognizing its emergency dispatchers during National 911 Telecommunicator Week, highlighting their role in handling emergency calls and coordinating responses for the city.
In a social media post, the department described dispatch work as a fast-paced environment where telecommunicators manage constant incoming calls, often describing it as a nonstop flow of emergencies requiring quick decision-making and communication with officers and first responders.
The department said it is using the week to highlight the work of dispatchers, who serve as the first point of contact for many emergency situations. Officials emphasized the importance of their role in ensuring that police, fire, and medical responders are quickly and accurately dispatched to incidents across the city.
As part of the recognition, HTeaO Waco – Bosque & Lake Air hosted a tea party for dispatchers, which the department said was a gesture of appreciation for their service. Police officials publicly thanked the business for supporting local emergency communications staff.
National 911 Telecommunicator Week is observed across the country to recognize the work of emergency dispatchers, who are responsible for answering 911 calls and coordinating emergency responses behind the scenes.
The Waco Police Department said it plans to continue highlighting its dispatchers throughout the week with additional recognition activities and community appreciation efforts.
